“Andromeda is more beautiful than the Sea Nereids.” With that statement about her daughter, Queen Cassiopeia brought down the wrath of Poseidon on her husband King Cepheus’ kingdom. Poseidon sent Cetus, the sea monster, to ravage the land and only the sacrifice of Andromeda would appease the sea god. Having no alternative, Andromeda was chained to a rock to await the monster. Fortunately, Perseus, having finished his day’s work with Medusa, was flying by on Pegasus and fell in love with the chained maiden. He asked Cepheus for her hand in marriage and Cepheus consented but noted the situation with the sea monster. “Not a problem” said Perseus who promptly slew the sea monster and married Andromeda. And so it was in ancient mythology.

Similarly, but not quite as dramatic, the modern Andromeda la Dea is a Perini Navi legend. This 47 meter ketch was the first Perini to circumnavigate the globe, took on the infamous “perfect storm” and visited both the Arctic and the Antarctic in her distinguished career. Completely up to date with three major refits in 2001, 2004, and 2006 she continues her worldwide travels.

In her 2001 refit she received a new carbon fibre in-boom furling system, a new sail wardrobe, including fully battened main and mizzen sails, carbon foils on the foresail, staysail and fisherman, complete update of the sail handling system, installation of underwater lighting and complete overhaul or replacement of all major operating systems. In 2004 she saw her fly bridge extended and a large custom designed spa tub installed, complete replacement of all navigation, communication, audio and video systems with state of the art equipment, all worldwide, including on board wireless computer internet and e-mail access. Her interior was completely re-done with new onyx in all the heads and the highest quality fabrics throughout. In 2006, she underwent the most extensive re-fit in her career, with new Caterpillar C-18 engines installed, new Northern Lights 90Kw Generators installed, new shore power unit and switchboard, updated all electrical systems, converted all winches to hydraulic with a state of the art sail handling system, renewed or replaced every major operating system, received all new Doyle sail wardrobe, all new California Audio Technologies custom A-V system with music and video server available in each cabin and entertainment space on the yacht, refurbished her decks, teak and brightwork, added a new passerelle with swim platform and added two new custom tenders.

She is now virtually a new Yacht, fully MCA compliant and ABS A-1 certified for worldwide ocean cruising and is up to the minute in looks and technology. However, with all her change, great care was taken to respect her heritage and tradition; so she remains perhaps the most renowned and most beautiful Perini in the fleet.
